Soil Testing and its importance
  1. Soil Testing:This refers to the series of tests on the soil that is carried out in order to determine the fertility or PH value of the soil.
  2. Soil PH

-This is the measure of how acidic or alkalinity the soil is.

-it is measured based on a scale of 0 to 14.

-bellow 6 the soil is acidic, above 7 the soil is alkalinity, and at 7 the soil is neutral, meaning it is partially acidic and partially alkalinity in nature.

-note that different crops grow well in different soil PH,hence this can only be achieved through soil testing which enables you to adjust the soil PH so as to suit the growth need of the soil.

Why is soil testing important.

-the biggest benefit of soil testing is that it provides you with your soil PH and measures the availability of soil minerals and nutrients. Healthy soils garant you health plants which assures you of a good yield.

-you get to know the right crop to plant and at what time to apply the required nutrients to the soil including the quantity that should be applied.

-not all soils are good for crop growth, but we can make them better.

-to protect the environment from contamination by runoff and leaching of excess fertilizer.

-to aid the diagnosis of plant culture problems.

-to improve the nutritional balance of the growing media.

-to save money and conserve energy by applying nutrients or fertilizers that are required by the soil for effective plant growth at that particular time.

-to improve on your yield per hectare.
